Education, engagement and social action: 5781 at Agudas Achim
The Agudas Achim Social Action Committee led by Dr. Michael Ozer, has planned a year of programming around Sustainability. Each month has been given a theme: Upcycling, rain, animals, light and electricity, recycling, plants, bugs, water, and fire. The committee has come up with programs, events, educational initiatives, and curriculum for school aged students, too. Be sure to be on the lookout for events and programs scheduled through the Agudas Achim Facebook page or weekly emails.

Heintz Preschool is open and taking precautions and safety very seriously. The preschool is doing temperature checks, curbside check in and thorough cleaning throughout the day in an effort to create a safe and comfortable environment for families. This year, the Inda Posner Religious School (IPRS) will begin in mid-October during the holiday of Sukkot. Connection to community, developing a Jewish identity, Hebrew reading skills, Jewish studies, and prayer are integral parts of learning while using the Institute of Southern Jewish Life’s curriculum and program development by Agudas Achim’s Clergy and Education Director. For 8th-10th graders, we will offer a bi-monthly course with Rabbi Cohen and Rabbi Richards and a once per month class for 11th & 12th graders. Agudas Achim’s Women’s Rosh Chodesh monthly meetings will continue throughout the year to celebrate the new moon. The group has coordinated with Partnership Together, our community’s Israel sister city in the Western Galilee. The congregation’s first Rosh Chodesh Partnership event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18 via zoom at 12:30 p.m. Israelis from the area, and women from the other cities that share the partnership will join in on the call, too.
