Holocaust Memorial Museum Hosts K-12 Educators Workshop
On Wednesday, June 14, K-12 Texas educators connected via Zoom to learn about Holocaust education techniques for their classrooms through a workshop hosted by the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio (HMMSA). Master teacher and Maxine Cohen For Hope For Humanity Educator Award recipient, Lisa Barry, shared how to integrate themes from the Holocaust into everyday lesson plans, including building empathy and good citizenry. The museum’s Outreach and Engagement Director, Julie Tzucker, shared books and resources, including the newly designed museum website, hmmsa.org, where teachers can access virtual tours and download resource guides. Teachers earned one State of Texas Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit for participating in the workshop. The workshop was provided free of charge as part of the museum’s education programming. The HMMSA is a program of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio.
The next recipient of the Maxine Cohen For Hope For Humanity Educator Award will be announced on October 27 during the museum’s biannual For Hope For Humanity event on Facebook LIVE.
