This morning, members of Love Should Not Hurt, a local collaborative working to stop and prevent domestic violence, gathered in front of San Antonio City Hall to announce the launch of their city-wide campaign.
Speakers included members of the faith community, the City/County Task Force on Domestic Violence, CCDV/Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence, as well as Councilman Manny Pelaez of District 8.
Rev. Anna Gordy spoke on the lack of training for all clergy in seminaries in recognizing and understanding the steps to take to assist congregants who are experiencing domestic violence.
Lisa Epstein, Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, announced today a four-part series for faith leaders in the community that begins tomorrow, Thursday, May 11. All sessions are on Zoom on Thursdays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm (May 11, 18, 25, and June 1). If you are a faith leader and are interested in this training, CLICK HERE.
Of this training for faith leaders, Councilman Dist. 8 Manny Pelaez said that this is “A leadership moment that requires showing up and having difficult conversations between faith leaders and their congregations.”
In addition to this important training series, multiple billboards will be visible across the city along with a bus wrap on VIA buses, bringing citywide awareness to the issue of domestic violence.
