San Antonio’s Holocaust Memorial Museum Launches Social Justice Commissions for Young People

San Antonio, TX — For young people interested in social justice, San Antonio has a new opportunity to get involved and make a difference in the community. The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio (HMMSA) is launching two new initiatives for young ambassadors ages 13 – 25 years: the Junior Commission and Young Adult Commission. These commissions will engage adolescent and young adult community members as museum ambassadors to participate in projects and service supporting Holocaust and genocide education in order to fight prejudice, hatred, and apathy.

Participating in these commissions provides an opportunity for our community’s younger generations to have a voice at HMMSA through docent training, giving input on museum curriculum, reviewing books and articles, completing self-driven projects, and much more.

The museum is currently recruiting volunteers who possess a commitment to deepen their knowledge of Holocaust history and feel a sense of passion for social justice. Young Adult Commission candidates must be out of high school and between the ages of 18-25 while Junior Commission applicants must be ages 13-18 and enrolled in high school. Applicants must be willing to commit approximately 5 hours a month to this responsibility.

People of all religions and backgrounds are encouraged to apply and there are no fees to participate.
