Social Action and Sustainability with Agudas Achim
November 2, 2020
The world stands upon three things; Torah, Service and Acts of Loving Kindness –Pirke Avot
The Social Action Committee of Congregation Agudas Achim, chaired by Dr. Michael Ozer, has planned a year of programming, events, projects, and engagement initiatives around monthly themes organized by the committee. The themes include: upcycling, water, animals, electricity, recycling, plants, bugs, rain, and fire.
Some of the initiatives have included a Food Collection Drive for the High Holidays, welcoming guest speakers from American Associates of Ben Gurion University to speak about plants and water, inviting the CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank to discuss food insecurity with our community, and allowing our families to attend the zoo with discounted rates to learn about animal life and animal conservation.
Our schools, Inda Posner Religious School and Heintz Preschool have also integrated the monthly themes into the curriculum.
We are excited to continue engagement and plan to have a successful year of making mindful decisions about sustainability and repairing our world through Tikkun Olam.
