There’s a New Congregation in Town!

March 15, 2021

Congregation Shalom of San Antonio, the newest Reform congregation in the city, welcomes anyone who might be looking for a Jewish home! We are presently meeting for Friday night services, adult education, and our children’s education program on Zoom. Congregation Shalom’s foundation is that all members have an equal say in the running of the congregation; instead of standard Board Meetings, there will be Town Hall style meetings where everyone present will have an equal voice and vote.  The group has been meeting each Sunday to discuss everything from structure to classes to worship to social action opportunities, etc., as the congregation gets up and running.

Last Sunday, the congregation elected their first slate of officers: Chair David Shane, Treasurer Adam Falkiewicz, and Secretary Dawn Elmore. About 30 people have already committed their time and energy to help establish the congregation under the very capable spiritual leadership of Lisa Goldstein, RJE.

In the past few weeks, the members approved as their mission statement: “Congregation Shalom is a Reform Jewish community that inspires dynamic engagement in Jewish worship, values, texts, culture, and social action. We encourage participation for all who seek connection to Jewish life.”

If you are unaffiliated with a congregation and/or are looking for something that is open, welcoming, inclusive, enthusiastic, and innovative, Congregation Shalom of San Antonio just might be the place for you.
