Holocaust Memorial Museum launches new Book Club

The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio is launching a new book club for the 2019 -2020 year. HMMSA Reads will meet quarterly in the Beldon Library at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Campus of the Jewish Community.

The inaugural meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m.; HMMSA Reads will be discussing The Diary of Mary Berg: Growing Up in the Warsaw Ghetto.

HMMSA Reads Book Club Dates

On December 5, HMMSA Reads will meet at 5:30pm to discuss Letters to Sala by Ann Kirschner, Deborah Dwork, Robert Jan Van Pelt, and Jill Vexler. The 2020 dates are also announced. On February 27 at 7 p.m., participants will discuss Rising Out of Hatred by Eli Saslow, who will be the guest speaker at the 2020 For Hope For Humanity Benefit later in the spring.

For the final meeting of the 2019-2020 year, HMMSA Reads will focus on local authors and survivor’s stories on June 4 at 5:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to choose one or all of these titles: Letters to Rose by Williams, Hoag, and Philbrick, East of the Storm, by Hanna Davidson Pankowsky, and The Unfathomable: Holocaust and After and Convoluted, Memoried, Retrieved both by Vivian Kearney.

HMMSA Reads books are available at amazon.com in print or e-book.

HMMSA Reads is free for any adult participant, beverages will be provided, and reservations to the meetings are highly encouraged. A suggested $5 donation is welcomed to support the Holocaust Memorial Museum programs.
