Congregation Shalom Begins Fall Adult Education Series

October 1, 2021

Congregation Shalom is pleased to offer its fall adult education series. Rabbi Lisa Goldstein will be leading sessions through Zoom on the following topics:

Introduction to Judaism: This series of classes is designed for anyone interested in Jewish life, including interfaith couples, non-Jews considering conversion, and Jews who want to learn more about their faith. The course covers the basics of Jewish thought and practice through the study of holidays, theology, prayer, life cycle events, Israel, and history. Classes will meet every Wednesday at 7:00 PM for 12 weeks, beginning October 13. Congregation Shalom members may attend free; the fee for non-members is $180.

Many Branches, One Tree – Exploring the Siddurim of Major Jewish Movements: This series of classes delves into the historical, theological, and liturgical differences among Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist Jewish movements as reflected in their respective prayer books. The course will address the origins of the movements, the shift from one Temple to multiple synagogues, the development of each movement’s liturgy, and a comparison of some specific prayers across movements. The course meets for four Saturdays at 11:00 AM beginning October 16th through November 6th. Congregation Shalom members may attend free of charge; the fee for non-members is $18 for the series.
