Hadassah San Antonio Celebrates 110 Years Honoring Queen Esther

February 1, 2022

Hadassah Shabbat 2022 – Purim, is the right time to celebrate Hadassah Zionism and 110 years of providing hope, healing, and service to the Jewish people.  It was in 1912, just a week before Purim, that Hadassah was created.  The name was taken from the Hebrew name of the heroine of the Purim story, Queen Esther invokes her heroic actions!  When one considers that all the Jewish people who were alive at the time lived in the Persian Empire, Esther literally saved all of her people from extinction.  On Hadassah Shabbat, there’s a lot of pride to share, with the hope that it will inspire not only our synagogue communities but the larger community, as well.  Just a few days before the celebration of Purim, Hadassah San Antonio Chapter’s Shabbat 5782 will take place at 6:00 pm, Friday evening, March 4th at Congregation Agudas Achim located at 15550 Huebner Road in North Central San Antonio.  It will also be the perfect time to honor Hadassah’s 110th birthday!

Congregation Agudas Achim in San Antonio offers services both live and online, which allows participants to choose how they want to worship. Rabbi Sharon Cohen who also is a Hadassah member will feature Hadassah in her remarks during this Kabbalat Shabbat service.  Local Hadassah members will also be given parts of the service to lead.  To complete this Erev (evening) Shabbat service a special Oneg, sponsored by Hadassah San Antonio will feature the traditional holiday favorite pastry Hamentashen.  Wishing you and yours a meaningful Hadassah Shabbat observance taking place at Congregation Agudas Achim, 6 pm March 4, 2022; a joyous celebration of Purim and Hadassah’s 110th birthday!  For more information, please contact Kathy O’Neill  [email protected].
