Hadassah San Antonio is keeping an eye on healthy vision

On Wednesday, June 16 at 7:30 pm., the San Antonio Chapter of Hadassah will present a virtual ZOOM talk about eye health. San Antonio optometrist, Dr. Erin Nevelow, a life member of Hadassah, will focus on an in-depth review of Nutrition and the Eye. As part of her presentation, she will show how dietary habits can influence some of the most common vision health issues people face including:
- Dry eye syndrome
- Macular degeneration
- Cataracts
- And other ocular conditions.
As a vision professional providing eye care to all ages, Dr. Nevelow will explain how nutrition impacts our vision and will offer tips on ways to bring comfort to our eyes. Dr. Nevelow will also answer questions about eye health from members of the virtual audience.
The charge for this Vision Awareness Month event is $10, $5 of which will cover expenses and $5 of which is a donation to Hadassah.
Hadassah, which supports an outstanding group of hospitals in Jerusalem, has provided training of medical professionals, research into diseases and cures, and top-level care for patients from all ethnicities and religions in Israel.
A native Texan, Erin is a family member of Nevelow Eye Associates optometry practice in San Antonio. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Nevelow went into cancer research, then shifted her choice of career and followed in her father’s footsteps, graduating from the University of Houston College of Optometry. After Erin finished her training, she returned to San Antonio to join the family practice.
In addition to routine eye health exams, Dr. Nevelow performs “infantsee” exams on babies between the ages of 6 and 12 months. She also takes part in school vision screenings at local area schools and writes a monthly article on vision and eye care topics for a neighborhood paper. As a member of San Antonio’s Aviva Hadassah Group (for women ages 19 – 49), Erin gives back to the San Antonio community by participating in special events like this one.
One of Nevelow Eye Associates’ areas of expertise is the fitting of eyeglass frames. To add an element of visual fun to this event, the San Antonio Hadassah Chapter invites program participants to make a “spectacle” of themselves and possibly win a prize! Simply select one of the Eyeglass Frames pictured and decorate it creatively. Then, toward the end of the Zoom program, when instructed, hold your decorated frame up in front of your eyes. Everyone with a decorated eyeglass frame will receive a free package of lens cleaner sheets & a chance to win a Max & Louie’s gift card.
