Having a Blast at J-Camp

August 4, 2022

If you visited the Barshop JCC on a weekday this past June or July, you most likely noticed that J-Camp was in full swing. Depending on where you were in the building, you may have encountered camp groups going to the pool, participating in gym activities, playing games in the auditorium, or enjoying time on the nature trail. There has been no shortage of J-Camp fun this summer. A few of the J-Camp highlights include:

Shabbat. Every Friday, J-Camp gathers to welcome Shabbat with J-Camp Judaic Specialist, Sammi Mazuz. At the end of every Friday, campers recite the traditional Shabbat blessings, sing songs, and enjoy challah.

The Coyote. The Spurs’ official mascot, The Coyote, celebrated Shabbat with J-Camp during the first session. Everyone was surprised and overjoyed to see their favorite mascot participating in Shabbat.

Frozen Kids. Performing Arts camp spent most of their time preparing for Frozen Kids, and put on three incredible performances to cap off a great session.

Field Trips and Overnights. J-Camp has gone on adventures all over San Antonio, and they have also spent a few nights at the JCC this summer! What fun!
