Helping People Help Themselves
April 1, 2022
Who needs a little financial help now and then? In normal times, many need help with education expenses, repairing storm-damaged homes, filling the income gap between jobs, and numerous other reasons. Many people in the San Antonio community need a helping hand periodically. Since 1924, Hebrew Free Loan Association of San Antonio (HFLA-SA) has extended that hand.
If that’s in normal times, imagine how those needs have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first 20 months of the pandemic, March 2020 through December 2021, HFLA-SA granted 42 new interest-free loans totaling more than $200,000. And more loan applications are in the pipeline!
For nearly 100 years, HFLA-SA has granted interest-free loans. As loans are repaid, that money helps fund new loan requests. These are loans, not charity. Currently, almost one-quarter of a million dollars is being repaid by Jewish borrowers of all ages in the multi-county Greater San Antonio area.
Resources making this community safety net are possible because of generous donations, small and large, all given from the heart for the single purpose of helping others – anonymously.
Information on how HFLA-SA can make a difference in people’s lives (maybe even yours) can be found on the organization’s website: www.hfla-sa.org. View case histories, along with a loan application and a description of the loan process. The entire loan process is confidential and can be navigated quickly. Why does HFLA-SA make interest-free loans? Because life happens.
