One Crak – Two Bam

Where are the Jokers?   Kvetch, Kvetch Kvetch!   I call that for Mah jongg.  I was just one away.  Winning isn’t everything.  It’s only a game.

My new play “One Crak-Two Bam” is the story of women’s friendship. It is a funny and a heart-felt story of good friends who play Mahjongg.  It’s about their relationships, conflicts, losses, new beginnings, romances, and forgiveness.  Mahjongg can be a metaphor for life- “You have to deal with the hands you get.”

One Crak Two Bam lived in my head for years.  I thought about it and made notes.  Ten years ago I decided to put the ideas on paper and write the play.  The characters had lived long enough in my head.

After it was written, it was time to have it read by actors. I had three readings with an audience at my home and each time I had rewrites and more rewrites.  My next step was to find a theater that would read it and have a production of the show.  Two theaters were scheduled to produce the play but closed their doors because of Covid.   Finally, there was a time and space at The Playhouse Cellar and I was asked if I wanted to have it produced.  What a question!  Of course, I said “yes.”  Now the play is cast with the most accomplished actors and director and we are in rehearsal.
