Remembering Leo Rose z”l

July 9, 2020

It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that we mourn the death of Leo Rose z”l. Leo was a passionate Jewish community lay leader who raised many millions of dollars for both the San Antonio Jewish community and Israel. Leo was also very instrumental in fundraising for other community-wide causes across the city and state that particularly highlighted his passion for sports, those in need, and racial diversity and interfaith collaboration.

As a past president of the Jewish Community Center, Leo will be especially remembered by the Jewish community of San Antonio for taking on the role of Jewish Federation Endowment Director. Leo retired from a career of building a small business into the 5th largest toy distributor in the United States and then seamlessly transitioning into the role of Jewish communal professional. The Jewish community is incredibly grateful for Leo being the primary force behind growing the JFSA’s initial endowments 25 years ago to the multi-million-dollar holdings it manages today.

Leo is survived by his wife Chickie; his children, Kenny Rose (Sherry Ritchie-Rose), Julie Rose, Laurie Levit (Steven Ades), Kalima Rose (nee Cathy Levit), Nancy Levit (Cathy Underwood), and Stephen Levit (Ann Levit); his grandchildren, Osha Levgin (Jenny Eiger), Andraya Hall (John Hall), Rachel Levit Ades, Noah Levit Ades, Joby Levit, and Mila Levit; his great- grandson, Elijah Levgin; nephews, Paul Rose, and Barry Rose; and his sister in law, Maxine Rose.

A Virtual Memorial Service will be held tomorrow, Friday, July 10, 2020, at 12:00 noon. Those wishing to participate may access the memorial via the following link: live streaming.
