Doing Good for SA – A Temple Beth-El Benefit Honoring Drs. Ruth Berggren and Charles Lerner

January 10, 2022

Since 1874, Temple Beth-El has served as the heart of San Antonio’s Reform Judaism and is a committed partner in strengthening the San Antonio community. In recognition of the good work done under and beyond its dome, Temple Beth-El will host it’s Doing Good for SA Benefit on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the San Antonio Food Bank. The entire community is welcome.

“Whether it’s gathering volunteers and donations for the San Antonio Food Bank and Meals on Wheels or engaging with other congregations such as Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal and the Muslim Turkish American Raindrop Foundation to strengthen the bonds of interfaith friendship, Temple Beth-El is an active partner in making San Antonio a better place,” said Debbie Roos, Temple Beth-El President.

The benefit will honor two Temple members who follow Temple’s “doing good” model, Dr. Ruth Berggren and Dr. Charles Lerner. In addition to volunteering on Temple Beth-El’s COVID Task Force, they provided invaluable leadership to the city, county, and surrounding areas during the health crisis. Dr. Berggren serves as the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics Director at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Lerner, officially retired, serves as an advisor for the Texas Medical Association Committee on infectious diseases.

“This benefit is all about ‘doing good’ and about those who show what ‘good” looks like. We are excited to honor these doctors and those they represent,” said benefit chair Mina Lopez.
