HMMSA Receives $10,000 Grant
The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission to support our planned 2021 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week programming.
The HMMSA is planning to offer twenty 45-minute special topic presentations, at locations throughout the greater San Antonio area. The focus of these presentations will be on instilling in the students, educators, and general audience Elie Wiesel’s message that “the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.” Five of these presentations will be livestreamed and recorded (one per day), allowing for these lessons to be posted on the HMMSA social media platforms, and to continue educating the community well beyond the 2021 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week.
The HMMSA will also be offering three teacher workshops leading up to the 2021 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week to help prepare area teachers in educating their students on topics related to genocide and the Holocaust.
This grant will be used to purchase equipment to record and stream the Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week programs, print posters and brochures to advertise programs, design and produce a new museum traveling exhibit, and provide resources for the teacher workshops.

Going Strong Online
The museum is continuing to add new virtual content to the website and social media platforms as we head into the new school year. We have a number of great online events coming up, including HMMSA Reads book club meetings and our annual program Patches: Others Deemed Dangerous or Inferior. We have also begun offering virtual presentations for schools and have several reservations open for the fall/winter.
For Hope For Humanity Online October 27th
Originally scheduled for March 25th, the 2020 For Hope For Humanity benefit was postponed due to the pandemic. The single in-person event has been expanded and transformed into a series of shorter virtual events; increasing access for audiences who wish to learn about and celebrate the work of the museum.
Those who have already purchased tickets and sponsorships for the original event will have access to these new virtual programs and we will be reopening ticket sales for the events in the coming weeks.
