New Traveling exhibits available from HMMSA

The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio has recently developed two new traveling exhibits.

The first is an introduction to the Holocaust, appropriate for students who are unfamiliar with the topic or have very little knowledge on the subject. This exhibit explains the concept of genocide, what events led up to the Holocaust, and how Jewish people in Germany were affected by Hitler’s rise to power.

The second exhibit is an intermediate level examination of the Holocaust, appropriate for students who already have a basic understanding of the topic. This exhibit tells the story of what life was like for people of Jewish heritage during the Holocaust, focusing on the effects of propaganda, the loss of citizenship, living conditions in the ghettos and killing centers, and acts of Jewish resistance.

The development and production of these first exhibits was funded through a generous grant by the Nathalie and Gladys Dalkowitz Charitable Trust. The museum is in the process of developing new traveling exhibit topics with plans to print additional copies of the current exhibits to make them more accessible. The museum is currently seeking additional funding to make that possible in order to serve more students in San Antonio.

These traveling exhibits can be borrowed by schools, libraries, or other community groups for up to four weeks at a time.
