Jori Epstein Shares “The Upstander” with San Antonio Community

May 5, 2022

On April 5th, as a part of the Author Speaker series, The Barshop JCC hosted author, and sports journalist, Jori Epstein, for an inspiring discussion about her book The Upstander: How Surviving the Holocaust Sparked Max Glauben’s Mission to Dismantle Hate. Jori spoke about her evolving relationship with Max Glauben and how that relationship led her to write the Holocaust Survivor’s biography. She touched on the special connection she now shares with the Glauben family, and how her countless interviews with them helped to bring Max’s story to life.

JCC Adult and Cultural Arts Coordinator, Sarah Ram, said of the event, “Jori gave such an interesting and thorough account of her and Max’s writing process for this book. Hearing about this process and about Max’s story was really impactful. And we are so thankful for our event partners, the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio, and the Jewish Community Relations Council!”

Jori also spoke about her plans for the book and participated in a question and answer session with the audience. The evening ended with a book signing where Jori was able to engage with audience members and answer questions one on one.

The Upstander is available at all major book retailers, and can also be purchased as an audiobook.
