Acts of Loving Kindness

September 1, 2022

Ever wonder who to call when uninsured or your medical insurance fails to cover durable medical equipment?  Perhaps borrowing a device you don’t have to purchase.

G’MACH, an acronym for “Giving Medical Apparatus from Caring Hearts,” as well as “Gemilut Chasadim – Acts of Loving Kindness,” is a new volunteer-driven organization started by Rivka Schechter and serves as a resource for members of the Jewish Community to borrow medical equipment for short-term use at no cost.

Rivka deserves to be acknowledged for her efforts in creating this valuable community asset.  It was her personal challenge fulfilled. She started by building inventory. Contacts were made to source equipment, and items were donated from friends and others realizing that something unused could help someone in need.  Rivka continues to source new donations of equipment and cleans items as they arrive. At her own expense, she repairs anything that needs a tune-up before it can be lent to others.

Since March 2022, ten families have benefitted.  Including those who need a wheelchair for guests visiting from out of town, shower chairs for helping a person suffering from vertigo, as well as someone with a sprained ankle who requires a knee scooter. All transactions are confidential, and no money is exchanged.

We invite you to help us in growing the G’MACH by sharing or donating equipment now so friends and neighbors can take advantage of this wonderful community service (knee scooters and transport chairs are in high demand!).

Please call the G’MACH (210-479-5422) for information about borrowing or donating medical equipment.
