Jewish War Veterans Celebrate 127 Anniversary
March 31, 2023
On March 15, we recognize the 127th anniversary of the Jewish War Veterans. As we envision that date in 1896 when 63 Jewish Civil War Veterans met in New York City to organize what was to become JWV, we can determine that their mission was to create an organization to actively counter the old trope that Jews do not fight and serve in the war. Fast forward to 2023, and we are still fighting the same trope and other forms of antisemitism.
As your San Antonio JWV Post 753 members, we pledge to continue the fight started in 1896 against all forms of discrimination and bigotry but especially antisemitism. We will remain strong and clear: fighting for military and veterans benefits and services, advocating on their behalf with elected officials, and continuing to fight antisemitism whenever and wherever it appears. We are “A Jewish Voice for Veterans, A Veteran’s Voice for Jews.”
