Hadassah San Antonio Chapter Summer Back to Camp FUNraiser Recap
December 5, 2022
Remembering the joys of Jewish summer camp, the San Antonio Chapter of Hadassah extended that experience to the San Antonio & Bexar County Community with an end-of-summer “FUN” raiser when they hosted a “Back to Camp” experience to raise funds for scholarships for needy youngsters to attend Young Judaea camps (CYJ Wimberley, Texas & others) and the Young Judaea Israel Year Course.
The evening of Sunday, August 28th, found members from SA Hadassah Chapter’s 3 Groups – Rose Trieman, Leah Goot & Aviva, gathered together along with their families at McAllister Park for an enjoyable picnic dinner provided by Kosher food truck Nibblits & Nosh. In a camp-like setting, the experience featured live music, singing, dancing & arts-n-crafts. Guest speaker, Hadassah member Sheri Barenblat shared what inspired her to choose CYJ for her children, even bringing notes of her kids’ personal memories of their CYJ experiences.
A selection of camp crafts were provided by Aviva member Sara Lerich for attendees to create & Israeli Dancing was led by instructor Orah Abramoff, accompanied on the accordion by Sara Purcell. As many attendees circled the pavilion area, they happily moved to different traditional dance steps, such as Mayim. This first-time event was enjoyed so much by all attendees they now anticipate holding a 2nd Annual Back to Camp FUNraiser in 2023.
