Jewish Security Committee Practices Emergency Preparedness

April 1, 2022

The Jewish Community Security Committee of the Jewish Federation continues to work together to keep the San Antonio Jewish community prepared for emergency situations. Lisa Epstein, Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), serves as the Committee Liaison. Their activities include personnel training and facilities assessments. Members of the Committee have attended training sessions provided by the Jewish Federations of North America, Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the Southwest Texas Fusion Center, and the Department of Homeland Security. Some members have invited law enforcement professionals to their facilities to do a complete threat assessment. They are also provided with information on applying for funds from the National Security Grant Program to improve the security at their individual facilities. The JCRC has advocated for the expansion of this program as part of its advocacy work. The attack at the Colleyville synagogue reminds us of all of the importance of ongoing training and preparedness in this uncertain environment.
