You can be a part of SAJSS’s Challah Program!

Jewish seniors and volunteers welcome

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, San Antonio Jewish Senior Services (SAJSS) has been working diligently to make Shabbat feel special for older adults in our community. Each week, SAJSS makes 50 check-in calls, and purchases and delivers challah directly to older adults in their homes.

Since SAJSS started delivering challah initially, they have been fortunate to partner with Congregation Rodfei Sholom, Chabad Center for Jewish Life & Learning, Congregation Agudas Achim, and Temple Beth-El to add kugel, cake, soup, muffins, candles, and a complete barbeque meal, over various weeks for seniors to enjoy for Shabbat.

The incredible growth of the challah program is a testament to its success. Today, SAJSS has more than 400 older adults on its Shabbat delivery list and continues to rotate through its list in order to deliver challah to more than 40 older adults each week. Further, SAJSS has the privilege of delivering challah to 70+ older adults in senior living facilities each month. If you are an older adult and would like to be added to the list, please fill out the online form sajss.com/requests or call SAJSS at (210) 616-4811.

SAJSS could not run this program without its dedicated volunteers, including grandparents, parents, teens, and children, who have helped bring smiles to many local seniors by delivering these care packages each week. If you would like to help deliver and/or make calls, please fill out the online form sajss.com/volunteer or call SAJSS at (210) 616-4811.
