The San Antonio Jewish Federation plays a vital role in supporting Jewish life for people of all ages, including college students in our community. Through our support of Hillel San Antonio, your contributions help enhance the college experience for Jewish students. Hillel serves as a central hub for Jewish life on campuses, providing a space for students to connect with their Jewish identity, engage in cultural and religious activities, and develop leadership skills.

With funding from Jewish Federation San Antonio, Hillel fosters an inclusive and supportive community where students feel connected to their heritage. In this diverse environment, Hillel is a crucial part of the Jewish student experience, offering a sanctuary where students can grow and thrive.

Tomer, a UTSA student, shared, “Being Jewish means being part of a resilient community that has persevered throughout history, and I’ve found that community at Hillel. I take pride in upholding my traditions and ensuring that Jewish culture continues to thrive for future generations.”

Much like Jacob’s legacy in the Torah, where he made provisions for the future of his descendants by ensuring that his children and their offspring were connected to their roots and their future in the Promised Land, Hillel supports the next generation of Jewish students. In this week’s Parsha Vayechi, we see Jacob’s deep commitment to preserving his family’s heritage and securing their place in the future. As he lay on his deathbed, he charged his son Joseph with a solemn vow to bury him in the land of their ancestors and continue the legacy of the Jewish people. He wanted to ensure that his children, and their children, would remain connected to their roots, no matter where they lived.

In recent months, Jewish college students have faced unprecedented challenges due to a surge in antisemitism on campuses nationwide. Since October 7, 2023, over 1200 anti-Jewish incidents have been reported on college campuses across the U.S., marking a staggering 500% increase (ADL). The Jewish Federation has worked hand-in-hand with Hillel, meeting with local university presidents, providing resources, and helping to safeguard Jewish students and promote inclusivity and safety on campuses.

Your support of the Federation ensures that Hillel can continue to provide a safe and supportive space for Jewish students, while advocating for their protection and inclusion in the face of growing challenges.

Just as Jacob blessed his grandchildren, ensuring their connection to a brighter future, your contribution to the Jewish Federation of San Antonio helps ensure a future for Jewish students today. Visit Ways to Give | Jewish Federation of San Antonio to donate today.
